The franchise industry seems to be abuzz<\/strong> about a new saga over at Dunkin’ Donuts<\/strong>. Dunkin’ Donuts, known for their flavorful donuts, and fresh brewed coffee is being accused of hammering on their franchisees-for things like cracked floor tiles, and the like.<\/p>\n

In other words, Dunkin’ Donuts corporate is suing franchisees.<\/p>\n

From Boston.com;<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cDunkin\u2019 Brands has never pursued litigation against a franchisee
\nwithout clear cause, nor will we,\u2019\u2019 Dunkin\u2019 Brands chief executive
\nNigel Travis wrote in a letter to franchisees. Dunkin\u2019 spokesman Andrew
\nMastrangelo said in a statement: \u201cIt is also irresponsible and
\nincorrect to imply that litigation<\/a> is in any way part of Dunkin\u2019
\nDonuts\u2019 strategy for profitability. In 2008, despite the economic down
\ncycle, Dunkin\u2019 Donuts global system-wide sales were up 5 percent and we opened more than 1,300 new stores worldwide.\u2019\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

Jim Coen, a franchise friend of mine, and president of the Dunkin\u2019 Donuts Independent Franchise Owners<\/strong>,
\nsaid yesterday that he does not understand the company\u2019s legal strategy and that it is difficult to find another franchisor targeting shop
\nowners to this extent.<\/p>\n

My friend Sean Kelly over at Franchise Pick asks;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Is Dunkin’ Donuts aggressively litigating it’s own franchisees<\/a> for profit?” <\/em><\/p>\n

Interesting question. Is that possible?<\/span> What do you<\/em> think?<\/p>\n
