It&#8217;s going to take a PR miracle to turn around what really is a <strong>PR nightmare<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Headline:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pizza Franchise Pushes Independent Bookstore Owner Out<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A Real PR Nightmare<\/h2>\n<p>A Ft. Collins Colorado franchisee of Papa Murphy&#8217;s, a take and bake pizza franchise, is forcing <a title=\"fort collins bookstores\" href=\"https:\/\/eclecticreaderbooks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0The Eclectic Reader<\/a>, a Ft. Collins <a title=\"books a million stores\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/are-books-a-million-bookstores-going-to-franchise\">bookstore<\/a>, out of it&#8217;s leased space. The reason: The franchisee is willing to pay more\u00a0for the retail space than the proprietor of The Eclectic Reader, Cynthia Manuel.<\/p>\n<p>Manuel is an advocate for <em>real books<\/em>-not the ones you can read on a Kindle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manuel: <\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<em>What I want to do, what I am passionate about, is connecting people with the books they need or want and creating a community-oriented, environmentally friendly, totally local business. I want to engage people in great conversation. I want to meet people every day and not sit in front of a computer selling books online or at a flea market<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Read more of her interview with The Coloradoan.<\/p>\n<p>This is not a good story for Papa Murphy&#8217;s or the local franchisee that <del>wants to<\/del> is taking over the space.<\/p>\n<p>And, they&#8217;re not the only<a title=\"bad franchise pr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-pr-lessons\"> franchisor that&#8217;s experienced bad pr<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How To Turn Around A PR Nightmare<\/h2>\n<p>The first thing I would do, would be to state that the pizza franchise owner is local, too. He is trying to open a small business and build something of value for himself and his family. <strong><a title=\"franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/definition-of-a-franchise\">Franchises<\/a><\/strong> <em>are<\/em> locally owned and operated small businesses. They are <em>not<\/em> big box stores like Wal-Mart or Best Buy. \u00a0It&#8217;s \u00a0not a David vs. Goliath story. It&#8217;s a story about prices. It&#8217;s a story about commercial real estate, and what this local market will bear, price-wise.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s how I would talk about the story.<\/p>\n<p>But, I&#8217;m not a professionally-trained PR professional.<\/p>\n<p>Are you?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>PR Pros: What Would You Do?<\/h2>\n<p>I want to know what you would do in this situation.<\/p>\n<p>What would your recommendations be to the franchise executives at Papa Murphy&#8217;s corporate?<\/p>\n<p>How would you turn this <strong>PR nightmare<\/strong> around?<\/p>\n<p>Please share your ideas in the comment section below.
