{"id":12916,"date":"2014-05-19T14:53:50","date_gmt":"2014-05-19T14:53:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/?p=12916"},"modified":"2017-10-24T19:18:15","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T19:18:15","slug":"franchise-owners-increasing-minimum-wage-will-increase-profits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-owners-increasing-minimum-wage-will-increase-profits","title":{"rendered":"Franchise Owners: Increasing The Minimum Wage Will Increase Your Profits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/your-profits.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-12919\" alt=\"picture\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/your-profits.png\" width=\"390\" height=\"357\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/your-profits.png 390w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/your-profits-320x293.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 390px) 100vw, 390px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I knew what side of the minimum-wage issue the IFA\u2019s <strong>Steve Caldiera<\/strong> would be on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The wrong side<\/strong>. \u00a0As usual.<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading\u2026especially if you\u2019re <a title=\"franchise owners\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/food-franchise-owners-use-cool-tools\">a franchise owner<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>IFA Minimum-Wage Prediction<\/h2>\n<p>During a phone interview with a <strong>CNBC<\/strong> reporter, Caldiera, president and CEO of The International Franchise Association, said that we should expect to see a \u201c<i>severe negative impact<\/i>\u201d on job creation.<\/p>\n<p>He added that &#8220;<i>raising the minimum wage will only hurt those it was intended to help and will lead to higher prices for consumers, less sales for franchisees and ultimately lost jobs<\/i>.&#8221; <a title=\"cnbc.com\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/101664605\">Story<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Really?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d like to hear how giving <a title=\"hourly wages for fast food employees\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/will-fast-food-franchise-owners-pay-their-workers-15-an-hour\">minimum-wage workers<\/a> (<i>people who are having trouble making ends meet<\/i>) a decent wage increase will hurt them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Increasing The Minimum Wage Will Increase Your Profits<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re the owner a franchise business-<a title=\"local franchise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/get-6-different-franchises-for-the-price-of-1-franchise\">a local business<\/a>, read the next few sentences in which I\u2019m pretending to be an hourly worker getting paid minimum wage. Try to really think through what I see happening if workers\u2026some of them maybe even yours, get a decent wage increase. Put all the spin that\u2019s out there aside for a bit. Ask yourself if <i>you<\/i> would turn down a decent hourly wage increase for fear of it hurting you.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nFind out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shareasale.com\/r.cfm?b=516696&#038;u=187224&#038;m=49420&#038;urllink=&#038;afftrack=\">what your business is worth<\/a> in minutes!<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Inside The Mind Of An $8.00 An Hour Worker<\/h2>\n<p>If I was a minimum-wage worker flipping burgers at a fast food franchise, or re-stocking shelves at a retail store for $8.00 an hour, I know for sure I would turn down a $2.00 an hour raise for fear of being hurt by it. Heck, I am feeling unimaginable pain just thinking about what could happen.<\/p>\n<p>For example: I would spend more money. <em>That would hurt like hell<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I would buy more stuff from local independent businesses and local franchise businesses. <strong>Ouch!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would try to <em>save<\/em> a bit-I may even open a savings account at a local bank. <strong>Ouch!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After a year or so, I may be able to finally ditch public transportation, and use some of the money I&#8217;ve been saving for a down payment on a used car at a local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/buying-a-franchise-isnt-like-buying-a-new-car\">car<\/a> dealer. <strong>Ouch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This stuff is really starting to hurt. I may have to ask my boss to give my higher wage to another worker. <em>I can\u2019t stand any more pain<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Subway\u00ae Founder Has An Idea<\/h2>\n<p>Fred DeLuca, the CEO and founder of <a title=\"research subway franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-opportunities-ebook-choosing-researching-and-buying-one\">Subway<\/a>\u00ae, the largest franchise operation in the world, isn\u2019t one of Caldiera\u2019s robotic-like followers. He doesn\u2019t <i>have<\/i> to be. (<i>But, who really does?<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what DeLuca told a CNBC reporter when asked how he viewed a potential minimum-wage increase:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c<i>Over the years, I&#8217;ve seen so many of these wage increases. I think it&#8217;s normal. It won&#8217;t have a negative impact hopefully, and that&#8217;s what I tell my workers. I always have whenever we come across these things. I personally think that if I were in charge of the government, I would index the minimum wage to inflation so that way everybody knows what they can count on. The employees know they&#8217;re going to get increases on a regular basis. The management knows that they&#8217;re going to have to pay a little bit more with inflation. It just seems much more sensible and fair to me. I don&#8217;t know why it hasn&#8217;t been done like that. I would do it that way because in the long, long run it&#8217;s going to approximate the change in inflation<\/i>.\u201d <a title=\"tv interview\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/id\/101647378\">Read the text of the entire CNBC interview<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>More Ideas Needed<\/h2>\n<p>Does DeLuca\u2019s idea go far enough? Heck no. He\u2019s not proposing an aggressive wage increase. But, it\u2019s a start. At least it\u2019s an UP arrow.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/up-arrow.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12917\" alt=\"chart\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/up-arrow.jpg\" width=\"384\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/up-arrow.jpg 384w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/up-arrow-320x226.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Question: What do you think <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/ray-kroc-the-entrepreneur-who-built-the-mcdonalds-franchise\" target=\"_blank\">Ray Kroc<\/a> would have done if this was going on when he was growing McDonald&#8217;s into the franchise empire it is today? <\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re the owner of a franchise, or if you\u2019re a franchise company CEO, do you have any ideas regarding the minimum wage?<\/p>\n<p>Do you, like me, believe that<strong> people who make more money spend more money<\/strong>?<\/p>\n<p>Do you feel they&#8217;ll spend it in<em> your<\/em> businesses?<\/p>\n<p>When <em>you<\/em> make more money do <em>you<\/em> spend more money\u2026or <em>save<\/em> more money?<\/p>\n<p>Something has to give here.<\/p>\n<p>What if the position the IFA is taking is 100% wrong?<\/p>\n<p>What if Steve Caldiera\u2019s position on minimum-wage is politically-motivated <a title=\"government shutdown\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/government-shutdown-means-no-franchise-expansion\">like all of his other positions<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Me\u2026I just want hard-working people to make more money.
