If you currently have a good job<\/strong>, you should seriously consider keeping it for as long as you can. Or, as long as “they” <\/em>will let you.<\/p>\n

They<\/em> being the people who sign your paycheck. You know…them<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Are You Grateful You Have<\/em> A Good Job?<\/h2>\n

If you have a good job, consider yourself to be one of the lucky ones.<\/p>\n

If you’re not grateful for having a good job in times like these, shame on you. Do you know how many people are jobless? Do you know how many people have given up looking<\/em> for a job?<\/p>\n

Since the recession ended in June 2009, the percentage of adults working or looking for work has fallen to a 37-year low of 62.8 percent. It has hovered around the mark for most of the past year.<\/em><\/p>\n

Economists calculate that about half that decline reflects the aging of the population as the baby boom generation retires.<\/em><\/p>\n

But another factor is that many Americans have become discouraged about their job prospects and have given up looking. Those out of work aren’t counted as unemployed unless they are actively looking for jobs.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

How do you give up on a job search?<\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong> If your level of despair is high enough you can potentially just give up.<\/p>\n

Again, if you have a good job now…today<\/em>, be grateful. Have an attitude of gratitude<\/em>. A lot of people have lousy jobs. A lot of people work for jerks<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Good Jobs: Keep Your Good Job As Long As They Will Let You<\/h2>\n

You can only keep a job…a good job or a lousy job, if they will let you. It’s not like you have a choice in the matter.<\/p>\n

(You don’t really<\/strong> think you have a choice when it comes to keeping a job, do you?<\/em>)<\/p>\n

If you’re an employee, your job-keeping powers are non-existent. You have no power.<\/p>\n

“But, what if you’re in a union, Joel<\/em>?”<\/p>\n

If you’re in a union, you have some<\/em> power.<\/p>\n

Until your union goes the way of the Mastodon.<\/p>\n

The bottom line:<\/strong> Unless you’re willing to go through a serious transformation, like going from an employee to an employer, <\/em>for example, <\/em>your job remains in the hands of your employer.<\/p>\n
