They&#8217;re man&#8217;s best friend. They&#8217;re friends to <em>many<\/em>, actually. Lifesavers even.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d1NkQhzZXDE\" width=\"625\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nWasn&#8217;t that a nice story?<br \/>\n(<em>Heck, even if you&#8217;re not a dog lover like me, it was still pretty great<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>Stories like the one shown above are wonderful for the pet industry. It&#8217;s <a title=\"pr and reputation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-pr-lessons\"><strong>PR<\/strong><\/a> at it&#8217;s best. (<em>Not that the pet industry needs\u00a0it, as you&#8217;ll see in a moment<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Dog Hotels And Other Pet Care Services: Some Statistics<\/h2>\n<p>The International Boarding &amp; Pet Services <a title=\"pet services association\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ibpsa.com\/\"><strong>Association<\/strong><\/a> (<em>IBPSA<\/em>) provides pretty solid industry statistics on their website:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<em>Americans spent a reported $55.7 billion on their pets in 2013. Of that, at $4.41 billion, pet care services including grooming, boarding, training, and pet-sitting grew by the largest percentage. We provide the training, education, products, trends, information, and legislative support to help our members succeed in a rapidly growing and competitive industry. IBPSA members include traditional and non-traditional pet care service providers including boarding facilities, veterinarians, groomers, trainers, pet sitters, doggie daycares, pet massage, and holistic care just to name a few<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s right: $4.41 <em>billion<\/em> was spent on pet care services in 2013.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>$4,041,000,000<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines a billion as &#8220;<em>A very large amount or number<\/em>.&#8221; That&#8217;s true, but I need you to <em>visualize<\/em> just how big a number a billion really is.<\/p>\n<p>From the folks at <a title=\"billion\" href=\"https:\/\/mathforum.org\/sanders\/geometry\/GP10BillionEtc.html\"><strong>MathForum.org<\/strong><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>If a billion kids made a human tower, they would stand up past the moon<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Or&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>If you sat down to count from one to one billion, you would be counting for 95 years<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Dog Hotels: What Is Our World Coming To?<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/franchisedog\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-19594\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/silly-bear-620x680.png\" alt=\"@franchisedog on Twitter\" width=\"620\" height=\"680\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/silly-bear.png 620w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/silly-bear-274x300.png 274w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(<em>That&#8217;s our dog, Bear. You can follow him <a title=\"franchise dog\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FranchiseDog\">@FranchiseDog<\/a> on Twitter<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>FYI:<\/strong> I just picked Bear up from a hotel for dogs-<a title=\"dog hotels that are franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/petlodgeusa.com\/pet-lodge-usa-beachwood-ohio\"><strong>Pet Lodge USA<\/strong><\/a>. It&#8217;s the 3rd time we&#8217;ve used the hotel. It&#8217;s\u00a0a pretty cool place. When you walk in, the front desk looks and feels just like a hotel front desk for humans. I actually like it. It&#8217;s not overdone or tacky. And, there are 4 different themed areas. Bear stayed in the Country Cottages area, which is perfect for him since he was a stray living in Kentucky. (<em>We <a title=\"toledo dog rescue\" href=\"https:\/\/www.heritagefarmsrescue.com\/\">rescued<\/a> him from sure death<\/em>.) Anyway&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is our world coming to?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hotels for dogs? And cats? And wabbits? This is crazy. Who in their right mind would pay $30-$75 a night for a hotel room for their beloved pets?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/about-joel-libava-the-franchise-king\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-18287\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/joel_libava_expert-2.png\" alt=\"joel libava\" width=\"337\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I would. I just <em>did<\/em>. And, I have the receipt to prove it.<\/p>\n<p>You saw the stats above, right. <strong>Billions<\/strong> of dollars are being spent every year by pet owners\u00a0who want the absolute best for their dogs. And, <b>dog hotels<\/b> are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to pet services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Pet Services<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to pet hotels, there are several other types of services offered for pets. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Doggie daycare<\/li>\n<li>Bathing and grooming services for dogs\/cats<\/li>\n<li>Dog walking<\/li>\n<li>Dog poop removal (<em>Really?<\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>Non-medical therapy-pet massages etc.<\/li>\n<li>Dog training<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(<em>I paid for dog training too, by the way. <a title=\"dog trainers cleveland\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cathysk9kids.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cathy <\/a>rocks!<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Did I forget any other pet services?
