Most of them are <a title=\"multi-units\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-ownership-how-cool-would-it-be-to-own-multiple-locations\"><strong>multi-unit<\/strong><\/a> franchise owners, owning 10, 20, 50 or more franchise units. And, today, a lot of them own multiple <em>brands<\/em>-like the franchisees featured<a title=\"multi-unit franchisees\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qsrmagazine.com\/franchisees\/dirty-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> in this QSR Magazine article<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Part 2<\/strong> of this series of articles, I discussed multi-unit franchise ownership as well as other well-known franchise models. Like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Franchise industry statistics<\/li>\n<li>Visualizing your ideal franchise business<\/li>\n<li>Aligning a franchise business with the things you&#8217;re good at<\/li>\n<li>The franchise affordability factor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Did you have a chance to read <a title=\"buying a successful franchise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/can-choosing-right-franchise-make-you-rich\"><strong>Part 1<\/strong><\/a>? I hope so. Lots of goodies in that article.<\/p>\n<p>So, can choosing the right franchise make you rich? Let&#8217;s find out.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Will It Work?<\/h2>\n<p>The franchise business opportunity you choose will have to be <em>validated<\/em>. That&#8217;s what<strong> Part 3<\/strong> of this article series is about. You&#8217;ll have to find out as much as you can about the actual concept, the company, the products\/services that are offered, and more. In other words, you&#8217;re going to have work to do. You can&#8217;t <a title=\"making assumptions about a turnkey business\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/jenny-jenny-the-franchise-slouch\"><strong>assume<\/strong><\/a> anything. Let&#8217;s go through the validation steps.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Franchise Concept<\/h2>\n<p>You need to determine the thing (<em>or things<\/em>) that make the franchise concept you&#8217;re interested in special. And if it&#8217;s money your after, you&#8217;re going to want to find out if you can become <strong>rich<\/strong> if you become the owner.<\/p>\n<p>In our busy, busy world-a world where marketing messages are being thrown at us in massive quantities day and night, it&#8217;s crucial for today&#8217;s brands to stand out. What makes the franchise you&#8217;re interested in possibly purchasing shine?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sun-1413721_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-20129\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sun-1413721_640-620x413.jpg\" alt=\"sunshine\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sun-1413721_640-620x413.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sun-1413721_640-320x213.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sun-1413721_640-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sun-1413721_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways to find out what makes a franchise concept shine. You can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask the franchise development representative<\/li>\n<li>Ask the franchisees<\/li>\n<li>Hit a few review sites, like Yelp or <a title=\"review websites\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessnewsdaily.com\/7937-business-review-websites.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>one of these<\/strong><\/a> to see what&#8217;s being said about the company&#8217;s products and\/or services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, ask yourself what <em>you<\/em> feel makes the concept special. What&#8217;s doing it for you?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>The Franchisor<\/h2>\n<p>You need to make sure the franchisor is a high-quality one. This part of the process is crucial. If you end up buying the franchise you&#8217;re interested in, you&#8217;re going to be involved with the company for a long time. Signing on the dotted line means you&#8217;ll be <a title=\"franchise legal issues and lawsuits\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-advice-count-the-number-of-lawsuits-against-the-franchisor\"><strong>legally obligated<\/strong><\/a> as a franchisee for 5-10 years. (<em>Most franchise contracts are actually 10 years in length<\/em>) You don&#8217;t want to enter into a long-term agreement with a company you &#8220;<em>kind of<\/em>&#8221; like. You really need to make sure you&#8217;re making a good choice in a franchise.<\/p>\n<p>I just came up with a new idea for researching franchisors: Visit Glassdoor.com.<\/p>\n<p>From the site:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Glassdoor holds a growing database of more than 8 million company reviews, CEO approval ratings, salary reports, interview reviews and questions, benefits reviews, office photos and more. Unlike other jobs sites, all of this information is entirely shared by those who know a company best \u2014 the employees.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Fact:<\/strong> Most of the people who visit the Glass Door website are job-seekers trying to get a feel for the company culture. As far as I&#8217;m concerned, <em>franchise<\/em>-seekers should be spending time on the site, too. The internal culture of a company says a lot about the leadership team-the executive team. Don&#8217;t you want to know how the employees feel about the company?<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"company culture\" href=\"https:\/\/www.glassdoor.com\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Check out Glassdoor.com<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another thing you can do is ask the franchisees about the franchisor. Ask them the following questions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Is the franchisor responsive to issues that may arise?<\/li>\n<li>Does the franchisor send a field rep out for in-person visits and support?<\/li>\n<li>Does the franchisor hold an annual convention?<\/li>\n<li>Does the franchisor want you to make good money as a franchisee?<\/li>\n<li>Do you feel that the franchisor considers you a valuable partner in the business?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I wrote an article for <strong>Small Business Trends<\/strong> a while back that includes <strong>5<\/strong> more great questions to ask franchisors. <a title=\"ask these franchise questions\" href=\"https:\/\/smallbiztrends.com\/2010\/02\/5-great-questions-to-ask-franchise-company-executives-before-buying-a-franchise.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Read it here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19739\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/girl-1106798_640-320x213.jpg\" alt=\"rich franchise owner\" width=\"540\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/girl-1106798_640-320x213.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/girl-1106798_640-620x413.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/girl-1106798_640-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/girl-1106798_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Are The Products\/Services Up To Snuff?<\/h2>\n<p>A small number of today&#8217;s franchise owners discovered the franchise business they currently own through personal experience with the brand. Maybe they chowed down a fresh pizza from <a title=\"pizza franchise opportunities\" href=\"https:\/\/www.franchisedirect.com\/foodfranchises\/pizzafranchises\/80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>one of these franchise brands<\/strong><\/a>. Maybe they built a house in a flood-prone area and had to hire their local <a title=\"storm damage cleanup\" href=\"https:\/\/www.servpro.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Servepro<\/strong><\/a> franchisee to do a bit of storm damage cleanup. Maybe their children took swimming lessons at a <a title=\"swimming franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/goldfishfranchise.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Goldfish Swim School<\/strong><\/a>. Doing business personally with a franchise brand can sometimes lead to ownership. Have you ever visited a franchise business and liked the product\/service so much that it made you think to yourself &#8220;<em>It would be great to own one of these<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, if you haven&#8217;t sampled the products and\/or services that the franchise business you&#8217;re interested in sells, you obviously need to do it. And once you do, you better love them. If you feel their offerings are average-or &#8220;<em>pretty good<\/em>,&#8221; run! It&#8217;s challenging enough to launch a new business in today&#8217;s noisy world. You don&#8217;t need to add another hurdle. (<em>The hurdle being you aren&#8217;t enthusiastic about the products and\/or services<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Two Tips<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Don&#8217;t be tempted to buy a franchise that&#8217;s<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong> hot hot hot<\/strong><\/span>&#8211;an opportunity you feel will be a huge money-maker in your city, that offers products and\/or services that you don&#8217;t love. You&#8217;ll only be able to fake your enthusiasm for so long.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #2:<\/strong>&nbsp;Have people you know in other cities around the country (<em>where the franchise you&#8217;re interested in is locate<\/em>d) spend some money with the franchise business. Ask them to do an informal &#8220;<em>review<\/em>&#8221; of the business for you. Then have them send you the receipt, so you can pay them back. (<em>Most of them will refuse to send you their receipts)<\/em>&nbsp;If that&#8217;s the case, get creative and find something you can do to thank them for taking their time and their money to help you out. Like this:<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/shareasale.com\/r.cfm?b=678836&amp;u=187224&amp;m=50745&amp;urllink=&amp;afftrack=\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.shareasale.com\/image\/50745\/IfOnly_Holiday_336x280_02.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Now Dig In<\/h2>\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve validated that the franchise opportunity you&#8217;re interest in has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A strong concept<\/li>\n<li>A positive, professional company culture<\/li>\n<li>Products\/services you love<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It will be time to really dig in and do the most important part of the entire franchise-buying process. I&#8217;m going to ask you to do&nbsp;something I promise will be rather uncomfortable at first, but will get easier as you go. I want you to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Call And Visit Franchisees<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cell-phone-591603_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-20159\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cell-phone-591603_640-620x413.jpg\" alt=\"phone calls to franchisees\" width=\"539\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cell-phone-591603_640-620x413.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cell-phone-591603_640-320x213.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cell-phone-591603_640-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/cell-phone-591603_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 539px) 100vw, 539px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Real validation comes from asking great questions of the people who have taken out a <a title=\"loan for franchise business\" href=\"https:\/\/fitbizloans.com\/franchise-financing\/?utm_source=The%20Franchise%20King&amp;utm_medium=test&amp;utm_campaign=franchise%20financing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>small business loan<\/strong><\/a>, signed a franchise agreement, and are&nbsp;<em>in<\/em> the franchise business you want to be in. The people I&#8217;m referring to are the franchisees. They&#8217;re already (<em>hopefully<\/em>) living their dreams. But, you have to know the right questions to ask. Once you know what those <a title=\"top franchise expert\" href=\"https:\/\/en.allexperts.com\/q\/Franchising-1415\/indexExp_61763.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>questions<\/strong><\/a> are, you ask them and go over the answers you receive, it will be decision time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You buy the franchise and become your own boss.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Or&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>You decide to not buy the franchise and keep looking for the right opportunity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wait&#8230;there are&nbsp;a few&nbsp;more choice you have.&nbsp;You can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep doing what you&#8217;re doing-keep your job etc<\/li>\n<li>Find a new job<\/li>\n<li>Come up with an idea for a business and create it<\/li>\n<li>Buy an existing business<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are lots of choices.
