It takes a lot of time to <b>properly<\/b> choose, research, and buy a franchise.<\/p>\n<p>To clarify-it takes a while to go through each and every step of the franchise buying process.<\/p>\n<p>Now, you <em>could<\/em> do what some people do. You <em>could<\/em> speed through the process, and buy a franchise in only one* month. And you could even become <a title=\"be successful\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/5-tips-on-how-to-run-a-wildly-successful-franchise-business\">a successful franchisee<\/a>-although it&#8217;s a long-shot.<\/p>\n<p>*I have two problems with this.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>There&#8217;s no way anyone could possibly gather all the information, do the proper franchise research, and vet the franchisor in 30 days time.<\/li>\n<li>A franchisor who would allow someone into their system in only 30 days time is <em>not<\/em> a franchisor I would want to be associated with.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m not an idiot. I&#8217;m sure someone (<em>or several someone&#8217;s<\/em>) have purchased a franchise in 30 days time. But, it&#8217;s not something I advise. Here&#8217;s what I tell every client I work with.<\/p>\n<p>Go slow and steady.<\/p>\n<p>It takes time to buy a franchise. Don&#8217;t rush it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your purchase of a franchise may end up being the most expensive thing you&#8217;ve ever done<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/military-642639_640.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-23327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/military-642639_640-620x411.jpg\" alt=\"discipline \" width=\"620\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/military-642639_640-620x411.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/military-642639_640-320x212.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/military-642639_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Discipline<\/h3>\n<p>In this case, I&#8217;m referring to <em>self<\/em>-discipline.<\/p>\n<p>As you&#8217;ll quickly find out (<em>when searching for a franchise<\/em>), it&#8217;s easy to be led astray. You&#8217;re going to need to stay disciplined.<\/p>\n<p>As an illustration, let&#8217;s say you&#8217;re thinking about exploring a popular food franchise like Subway\u00ae.<\/p>\n<p>Because you&#8217;re on the internet a lot, you start running across articles about the Subway franchise opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the articles are a little scary, <a title=\"subway is a bad franchise business\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.fortune.com\/magazines\/fortune\/fortune_archive\/1998\/03\/16\/239302\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">like this one from 1998<\/a>. Articles like that can quickly change your opinion on the franchise opportunity you&#8217;re interested in. Be careful. It&#8217;s really easy to fall into <a title=\"franchise black hole joel libava\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newswire.com\/feisty-franchise-industry-insider\/191627\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">franchising&#8217;s black hole <\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On a positive note, <a title=\"articles about buying a Subway franchise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/how-to-buy-a-subway-franchise\">there are articles on Subway franchises like this one<\/a>, that are fair and balanced; they can guide you (<em>step-by-step<\/em>) through the entire Subway franchise purchasing process. Self-discipline is easy when you read articles like that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Another Scenario<\/h2>\n<p>There&#8217;s something else that sometimes happens when you&#8217;re on a franchise opportunity search. It has to do with the interactions you&#8217;ll be having with other human beings.<\/p>\n<p>For example, let&#8217;s say you made the wise choice of sitting down with your spouse to explain your &#8220;<em>non-traditional<\/em>&#8221; career plans.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, you told your spouse how careful you were going to be in your search for a franchise to buy. In this case, you&#8217;re going to have to keep your eye on the goalpost. You may have to dig deep to find the resolve you&#8217;ll need to keep on keeping on. Especially since it takes time to go through the process.<\/p>\n<p>As you&#8217;ll see (<em>when you&#8217;re smack-dab in the middle of the process<\/em>) there are going to be a lot of distractions&#8230;things that can cause you to <em>lose<\/em> focus.<\/p>\n<p>For example, let&#8217;s say that you&#8217;re on a dual-track (<em>you&#8217;re looking at franchises but you&#8217;re still open to good job opportunities<\/em>), and an executive recruiter calls you with a potentially high-paying <a title=\"job opportunity\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/the-food-service-business-being-stuck\">job<\/a> opportunity. If you choose to go on the interview, you could lose focus on your goal of becoming your own boss-especially if the job opportunity seems like a good one.<\/p>\n<p>Another example of how you can lose your focus has to do with talking. He&nbsp;started his fitness business 10 years ago, and from what you&#8217;ve heard, he&#8217;s reasonably successful. You figure he would be a good guy to talk to about your idea. So you call him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Hi Gene. It&#8217;s Linda! How are you<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Linda! I&#8217;m good. What&#8217;s going on?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Hey-I&#8217;m thinking about getting in business-buying a franchise of some sort, actually, and I wanted to run a few things past you<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No problem, Linda. How can I help?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Well, what do you think about franchising<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whoops.<\/p>\n<p>You have&nbsp;<em>totally<\/em> opened a can of worms with that question, because Gene&#8217;s answer <strong>clearly<\/strong> reveals that he&#8217;s rather <strong>anti<\/strong>-franchising. The reason: He&#8217;s been losing customers to area fitness franchises for the past 3 years-and he&#8217;s pissed. Glad you called him?<\/p>\n<p>Stuff like that* can happen <a title=\"telling others you want to buy a franchise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/buying-a-franchise-you-need-to-avoid-opinions-at-all-costs\">when you start sharing <\/a>what you&#8217;re thinking of doing with others.<\/p>\n<p>*Admittedly, that was an extreme example. I doubt the same exact thing would happen to you.&nbsp;But it <em>could<\/em>. And if it did, how would you handle it? <a title=\"afraid to become the owner of a franchise business\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-ownership-fact-people-frightened-start-business\">Would it cause you to re-think things<\/a>? Would it cause you to lose your focus?<\/p>\n<p>What I&#8217;m getting at is this:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>How Bad Do You Want To Be Your Own Boss?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Work. Time. Discipline. Focus.<\/h2>\n<p>In summary, when it comes to searching for a franchise to buy-<a title=\"new franchise opportunity\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-opportunity-in-the-exploding-mobile-device-market\">the right franchise<\/a>, you&#8217;re going to have to do the work.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, you&#8217;ll have to take your time. Remember what I tell all of my clients; slow and steady.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re going to need to have serious discipline to reach your goal of being your own boss.<\/p>\n<p>And your focus will need to be laser sharp.
