There are plenty of other categories.<\/p>\n<p>But if you&#8217;re interested in owning more than one franchise unit, retail is worth a look.<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Brick And Mortar Facts<\/h2>\n<p>Get ready to be surprised.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/LOZ7D34vE8mIw\" width=\"480\" height=\"296\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/giphy.com\/gifs\/personal-arrested-development-LOZ7D34vE8mIw\">via GIPHY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to <a title=\"retail study\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwired.com\/press-release\/at-kearney-study-finds-brick-mortar-stores-still-key-consumers-omnichannel-world-1840725.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a study<\/a> done by\u00a0A.T. Kearney&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>The physical store is the channel of choice across all ages (from Millennial to senior citizens) and household income levels (from less than $25,000 per year to more than $100,000 per year<\/em>).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>40% of customers spend more money than planned during in-store visits, vs. 25% of online shoppers<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Those two items are good news if you&#8217;re thinking about going the retail route in franchising. But, I have more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Two Retail Trends To Watch<\/h2>\n<p>According to <a title=\"retail growth areas to watch\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/industries\/retail\/our-insights\/how-retailers-can-keep-up-with-consumers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McKinsey<\/a>, there are two areas of growth to watch.<\/p>\n<p>1. Millennials (<em>population between ages 13 and 30<\/em>) which constitute 15% of the US consumers, are going to account for almost 33% of total spending by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>2. Baby boomers will still drive the major retail categories such as food* (<em>92%<\/em>), housewares (<em>73%<\/em>), and apparel (<em>56%<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>*McKinsey included food as retail. I don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Can you think of any specific franchise opportunities that cater to the demographics mentioned above?<\/p>\n<p>Finally, here&#8217;s one more statistic-and it&#8217;s a biggie.<\/p>\n<p>87% of shoppers go to a store when they are ready to purchase a particular product.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s right.
