(<em>$300,000 including a loan<\/em>) He also told me what his <a title=\"free calculator\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/free-net-worth-calculator-from-the-franchise-king\">net worth<\/a> was. (<em>$950,000<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>I then asked him if he had <a title=\"looked at franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/looking-at-franchises-first-things-first\">looked<\/a> at any franchises yet? His answer follows.<\/p>\n<p>Terry: &#8220;<em>As a matter of fact, I have. I&#8217;ve even talked to a few franchise salespeople<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me: &#8220;Great. Which ones?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Terry: &#8220;<em>I&#8217;m actually working with a franchise consultant. She presented 3 different ones to me<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me: &#8220;<a title=\"truth about franchise consultants\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/7-ugly-truths-franchise-consultants\">A franchise consultant<\/a>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Terry: &#8220;<em>Yes, she spoke to a bunch of us at the Outplacement place I&#8217;m working with<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wow, was I surprised.<\/p>\n<p>I had no idea that Terry was <em>already<\/em> looking at franchises, <em>and<\/em> was working with a franchise consultant. He totally kept it from me. But why?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Because it&#8217;s becoming harder and harder to trust others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, he may have felt guilty about working with a consultant, after getting so much valuable, no-spin information from me.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>3 Franchise Opportunities<\/h2>\n<p>The 3 franchises he was presented with were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A home services franchise<\/li>\n<li>A business to business franchise<\/li>\n<li>A non-franchise<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this case, Terry was interested in the <a title=\"franchises b2b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/blogs\/should-you-consider-b2b-franchise-opportunities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">business to business franchise<\/a>. I asked him why.<\/p>\n<p>He told me that he liked the idea of working Monday through Friday-as that was what he was used to.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, he told me that since the franchise business had to do with technology, he felt comfortable. After all he was just downsized from his position as the V.P. of Network Security.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Then I saved him<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Me: &#8220;Terry, I understand that you are attracted to a franchise opportunity with normal business hours. I also understand your comfort level with the type of franchise you&#8217;re looking into. You&#8217;re a technology guy, and it&#8217;s a technology-related franchise business. But there&#8217;s something you need to know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Terry: &#8220;<em>What is that, Joel<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Me: &#8220;You have to go out and find customers. It&#8217;s a sales business. Have you ever done sales?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Terry: &#8220;<em>No, but I&#8217;m sure I can learn it<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FYI:<\/strong> Terry is pretty introverted.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Business To Business Is&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p>Owning and operating a business to business franchise is not for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>You have to be assertive. Aggressive. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/3-things-franchise-brokers-prefer-keep-wraps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sales-oriented<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, you need to be an <em>extrovert<\/em>. You either are or you&#8217;re not. Terry was not. That&#8217;s a problem.<\/p>\n<p>And the &#8220;<em>I&#8217;m sure I can learn how to sell<\/em>&#8221; line may sound good, but in all actuality, it&#8217;s not good&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Because generally speaking, it&#8217;s rare to see someone who&#8217;s used to working behind the scenes transition into a <a title=\"top sales blog\" href=\"https:\/\/thesalesblog.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sales superstar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Having said that, Terry could invest a few thousand dollars into <a title=\"sales trainers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sandler.com\/sales-training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sandler<\/a> and learn a lot. But would it be enough?<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, he could hire an experienced B2B salesperson. It&#8217;s an idea. (<em>An expensive one<\/em>) But what would Terry do?<\/p>\n<p>In any event, I told Terry that I would teach him all of my franchise research techniques, so he would be able to get all the facts about the franchise he was interested in.<\/p>\n<p>I also told him that I would refer him to some lenders and a franchise <a title=\"franchising lawyers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/top-franchise-attorneys\">attorney<\/a> if things got serious. And that he could email me anytime if he needed more help.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>What Did Terry Finally Do To Relieve His Career Pain?<\/h2>\n<p>So, what did Terry do? (<em>Choose one<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>A. Did he buy that B2B franchise?<\/p>\n<p>B. Did he ask me for other ideas?<\/p>\n<p>C.
