It enables me to implement most of the ideas that randomly enter my brain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"tenor-gif-embed\" data-postid=\"11241304\" data-share-method=\"host\" data-width=\"60%\" data-aspect-ratio=\"0.8514056224899599\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/view\/brain-gif-11241304\">Brain GIF<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/search\/brain-gifs\">Brain GIFs<\/a><\/div><script type=\"text\/javascript\" async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/embed.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>3 years ago, one of those ideas got in. It was this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Capitalize on the growing interest in online courses by creating a website that would be focused on educating prospective franchise owners <em>via online courses<\/em>. It totally made sense at the time, so I went about creating the site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing I had to do was come up with a theme. In this case, I decided that the site should have a higher-education feel to it, so I went with a &#8220;<em>University<\/em>&#8221; theme. An online university where &#8220;<em>students<\/em>&#8221; could register to take a free course on franchising, and if they liked it, <em>buy<\/em> a course or two. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, I had to create the free course and the paid one. It took me a couple of months to put the courses together, and I added them to the website when they were finished. (<em>The website was Franchise Business University dot com<\/em>) In later months I added a few other courses from outside vendors, and when everything was all said and done, I was offering 6 different online courses on franchising and business. But there was a problem. And this &#8220;<em>problem<\/em>&#8221; turned out to be the reason <strong>I closed Franchise Business University<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"426\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/middle-age-man.jpg\" alt=\"demographics for online courses\" class=\"wp-image-30721\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/middle-age-man.jpg 426w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/middle-age-man-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/middle-age-man-380x570.jpg 380w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Demographics Were Wrong<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I should have done more research. And I should have taken a deeper dive into who my core* client was. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*My core client&#8230;the majority of the people who contact me are men, 42-55 years young. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And while<em> some<\/em> 40-year-old&#8217;s invested and took my main &#8220;<em>How to Buy a Profitable Franchise<\/em>&#8221; online course, I found that the closer people got to 50 years old, the less likely it was that they wanted to <em>take<\/em> an online course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That said, there was-<em>and is<\/em> a lot of interest in getting educated on franchising. I was just going about it the wrong way. I was more interested in delivering &#8220;<em>cutting-edge<\/em>&#8221; education through the use of the latest technology, then educating in general. I was attracted to the &#8220;<em>bell&#8217;s and whistles<\/em>.&#8221; My friend, <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Chris Brogan (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/chrisbrogan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Brogan<\/a><\/strong> puts it best:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"456\" height=\"278\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shiny-objects-chris-brogan.png\" alt=\"chris brogan on shiny objects\" class=\"wp-image-30722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shiny-objects-chris-brogan.png 456w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/shiny-objects-chris-brogan-320x195.png 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;<em>We have too much to do. We have too much to sort through. There are too many shiny objects, too many me-too experiences, too many situations where we\u2019re doing something because we think that\u2019s what we should be doing, and because that\u2019s what other people seem to be doing<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><p><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Survey Says&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, I should have asked <em>(surveyed<\/em>) my readers and <a href=\"https:\/\/facebook.com\/TheFranchiseKing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"social media followers (opens in a new tab)\">social media followers<\/a> how they felt about taking online business courses. My bad. As a result, although my free course did pretty well, the paid one didn&#8217;t. I played around with prices, wrote a lot of articles that linked to the Franchise Business University website, but I never got enough traction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore,  even though I was used to running multiple websites (<em>for a time, I had 6 franchise websites up and running at the same time<\/em>), I was finding it harder and harder to maintain Franchise Business University <strong>and<\/strong> the website you&#8217;re on now. Plus there were annual hosting fees and I was paying someone to do updates and help me with the course* software.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*The software I was using for the online courses was horrible. It was way more complicated than it needed to be. It turned out to be worse than the original software I used when I launched the site.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Happened To The Franchise Courses?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that I saved the courses. I&#8217;m converting them to digital guides (<em>eBooks<\/em>). One of them is available right now, and it&#8217;s free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s titled, &#8220;<em>A Proper Introduction to Franchising<\/em>.&#8221; To get it, all you have to do is type your email address in below.  And since it&#8217;s not a &#8220;<em>course<\/em>,&#8221; there are no tests etc. Just information. <em>Useful<\/em> information. <\/p>\n\n\n<p><span data-sumome-listbuilder-embed-id=\"836d05cec0fea9be767d5c6b2d0b2cfdc56eeb60b44748b8d1a4df4110080eeb\"><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<p>The other course I wrote is being formatted into a digital guide right now.
