That said, it&#8217;s important to recognize that your franchising business won&#8217;t be an overnight success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just like any other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bplans.com\/start-a-business\/before-you-start\/small-business-vs-startup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">business venture<\/a>, making money in a franchise business takes time, dedication, and effort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this post, I&#8217;m going to share some of the things that go into the potential profitability of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/great-clips-franchise\">your franchise business<\/a>. One of those things I&#8217;ll share?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How long it may take to become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/sell-your-franchise-for-maximum-value\">money-making franchisee<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p><h2>Two Questions About Franchise Profitability<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/p><p>Let\u2019s talk about <a href=\"\nhttps:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/profitable-franchisee\">making money<\/a> as a franchise owner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Almost without exception, when you\u2019re investigating franchises to buy, you\u2019re #1 question is \u201c<em>How much<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-earnings-claims\"> money<\/a> can I make<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In most cases, that question is followed by \u201c<em>How long will it take to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-fast-lane\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> make a profit<\/a><\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And <em>that\u2019s<\/em> the focus of this post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FYI:<\/strong> If you want to learn how much profit you can make with a franchise, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/howmuch-money-can-i-make-in-a-franchisebusiness\">read this<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2>Transitioning Into Even MORE Responsibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve always been an employee, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/maybe-look-buying-existing-franchise\">tra<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/buying-existing-franchise\">nsitioning to a business owner<\/a>, which is great in so many ways, can be a shock to <s>the<\/s> your system. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First off, your level of responsibility just grew by 8. That\u2019s because as a franchisee (<em>I&#8217;m<\/em> <em>using a retail or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/food-services-industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">food franchise<\/a> as an example<\/em>),  you\u2019re responsible for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Rent<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Payroll<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inventory<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dozens of miscellaneous business expenses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Federal, state, and local business taxes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marketing and advertising<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sales<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Profit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<p>There it is. <!-- \/wp:post-content --><strong>Profit<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the goal, right.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also why you\u2019re willing to take on all of the responsibilities a franchise owner has. No pain no gain, right?<\/p>\n<div class=\"tenor-gif-embed\" data-postid=\"21969919\" data-share-method=\"host\" data-aspect-ratio=\"1.63265\" data-width=\"80%\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/view\/no-pain-gain-academia-exercicio-gif-21969919\">No Pain GIF<\/a>from <a href=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/search\/no-gifs\">No GIFs<\/a><\/div>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" async src=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Secondly, if you\u2019re used to getting a salary, unless you build one into your business plan, you shouldn&#8217;t anticipate receiving one early on.<\/p>\n<h2>Franchise Profitability: When Does It Happen?<\/h2>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>When you open <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-review-crumbl-cookies\">your new franchise business<\/a>, you\u2019ll certainly have money coming in. But, it can\u2019t go into your pocket right away.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, it needs to go right back into your business to pay your operating expenses.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t forget your monthly franchise business <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/7-powerful-reasons-buy-franchise-using-401k\">loan payment<\/a>. You\u2019ll need to pay that (<em>on time<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Great. Thanks for the reminder, Joel<\/em>. <em>Not<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Hang in there. It\u2019s all good. <a title=\"when do franchises hit break even point\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/break-even-in-a-franchise\">Especially if you hit break-even quickly!<\/a> That\u2019s the point where your revenue pays your business expenses. So when will you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/most-profitable-franchises\">make money<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b> your business expenses and profit margins will vary, depending on which segment of franchising you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/what-everybody-ought-to-know-about-franchise-consultants\">choose<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>The Truth<\/h2>\n<p><strong>In my experience, you won\u2019t make a profit from your franchise business for at least a year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>A year<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Actually, no. I was being nice. It may take <em>a couple of years<\/em> to make a profit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>That sucks, Franchise King!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>I disagree.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>It only sucks if:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>A. You\u2019re trying to replace your salary<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>B. You\u2019re not in it (<em>franchise ownership<\/em>) for the long haul.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><strong>The bottom line?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/the-ultimate-guide-to-the-world-of-franchising\">Franchise ownership<\/a> is not a quick win.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>In other words, if you\u2019re trying to make a quick buck, <strong>invest in something else<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But if you\u2019re looking to own something that can be profitable over time, you have a real shot at success.<\/p>\n<p>Just make sure you <a title=\"smart choice in a franchise to own\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/how-to-research-a-franchise\">make a smart choice in a franchise<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> Joe Stokar (<em>who was my sales mentor<\/em>), once told me that \u201c<em>Profit is not a dirty word<\/em>.\u201d Makes sense. Especially if you\u2019re on the receiving end!
