Really? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If so, you may have a problem. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because in my experience, 9 times out of 10, there’s more than one person involved in the final decision on whether to invest in a specific franchise<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“But Joel, I am<\/strong> the one who makes the decisions in my house<\/em>.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boss<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Do you consider yourself to be the boss of your household? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The one who makes the rules?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person who’s in charge of all things financial in your house? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If so, I have a surprise for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bluntly, you may not be the boss<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now you’re pissed. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because you think I’m wrong. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I’m not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Actually Joel, you are<\/b> wrong, and you’re being a jerk. You don’t even know me<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is where my fight or flight response kicks in.<\/p>\n\n\n

On Wall Street Executives, CEO’s, And The Decision Making Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In my role as a franchise advisor<\/a>, my clients have included high-powered CEO\u2019s, Wall Street executives, and mid six-figure salespeople. I’m talking about people who are used to being in charge and getting their own way. In addition, it’s fair to say that a good number of them probably have above-average decision making skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And some of them, after hearing my \u201cinvolve members of your family-especially spouses or significant others early<\/em> in the franchise purchasing process<\/em>\u201d suggestion, have told me in no uncertain terms the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t need to talk to my spouse about this. I\u2019m<\/strong> the one who will make this decision.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riiiight. Until out of nowhere-usually right in the middle of the process, their spouse appears on the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I thought you were working with an Executive Recruiter<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I didn’t know you were thinking about buying a business<\/a><\/strong>. Why didn’t you tell me? This is big stuff<\/em>!” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a bonus:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“How much money is this going to cost us<\/em>?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hey…wait. I thought you<\/em> were the boss. That you<\/em> are the person making the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

The Word<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I’d like you to focus on one word. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s located in the last section. Can you see it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Us<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s right. Us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m going to say something here…as gently as I can. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This course of action…your decision to buy a franchise<\/a> isn’t all about you<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s because the people around you…the people you cherish most, are going to be affected by your decision to go into business<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notably, they’re going to experience a lot of changes in their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things like the lack of a steady paycheck (for a while<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hours you’ll be putting in-which means a lot less time at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stress you’ll have-especially when you’re about to launch your new business<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course they’ll also get to experience the (potential<\/em>) rewards of franchise business ownership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I say “potential<\/em>” because you need to make sure you do all the right things. Like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
