I&#8217;ll explain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On one of my recent <a href=\"https:\/\/calendly.com\/thefranchiseking\/15min\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Complimentary Calls<\/a>, the prospective client in question told me she had been talking to &#8220;<em>a few Franchise Consultants<\/em>,&#8221; and wanted to know how I was different. No problem. I share how I&#8217;m 100% different all the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I began by telling her how I worked-that <strong>she<\/strong> would be my client-as opposed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/what-everybody-ought-to-know-about-franchise-consultants\">how<\/a> a Franchise Consultant works. But I&#8217;m not sure she absorbed what I was saying. Not because she couldn&#8217;t understand it though.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2>MBA Smart, And Money Handled By A Wealth Manager. And?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next part of our &#8220;<em>conversation<\/em>&#8221; quickly went  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"tenor-gif-embed\" data-postid=\"24390528\" data-share-method=\"host\" data-aspect-ratio=\"0.5625\" data-width=\"80%\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/view\/southrdr2-gif-24390528\">Southrdr2 GIF<\/a>from <a href=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/search\/southrdr2-gifs\">Southrdr2 GIFs<\/a><\/div> <script type=\"text\/javascript\" async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/tenor.com\/embed.js\"><\/script>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what happened, but after I asked her what she was doing (<em>what was she<\/em> <em>looking into<\/em>?), things evolved into a &#8220;<em>I&#8217;m looking at franchises and talking to several consultants, and I want to know why I should spend my money with you<\/em>?&#8221; kind of thing. And I still had no idea what franchises she was looking at. \n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/what-happened-to-quiznos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fast food franchises<\/a>? A UPS Store?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, I figured it may be time to tell her what I <strong>really<\/strong> excel at. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>The main thing I can help you with is teaching you how to do great research on the franchises you&#8217;re interested in. How to talk with existing franchisees. How to get information from franchise salespeople. Etc<\/em>.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I have an MBA. I&#8217;m quite capable of doing research.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>But you don&#8217;t know to to research franchises. It&#8217;s totally different from anything you&#8217;ve researched in the past<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She disliked that. Hey, it&#8217;s true. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>And your Wealth manager won&#8217;t be abl<\/em>e<em> to help you with that<\/em>.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not worried about the research part. The folks I may be partnering with own 150 franchises. They&#8217;ll help me.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What? I was so confused.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2>How Things Went From There<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We went back and forth a little more, and nothing was accomplished by either side. Heck, I didn&#8217;t even know why she wanted to talk to me in the first place. Maybe she thought I was some sort of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/words-matter-a-franchise-coach-isnt-really-a-coach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Franchise Coach<\/a>.\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>I don&#8217;t think I want to work with you. You never asked what franchises I was interested in<\/em>.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>I have absolutely no idea what you&#8217;re doing, franchise wise. You wanted to know how I was different from Franchise Consultants. I told you<\/em>. <em>You&#8217;re working with a Wealth Manager, and maybe some partners who already own 150 franchises. I don&#8217;t know why, and at this point, I don&#8217;t need to<\/em>. <em>I don&#8217;t want to work with you<\/em>.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s how the call ended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what&#8217;s my point?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I <em>do<\/em> know this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This person came at me hard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She wanted to know how I was different that the &#8220;<em>other<\/em>&#8221; Franchise Consultants she talked to. Basically, she dominated our conversation right out of the gate. Is that part of what they teach when you get an MBA? <\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<h2>I&#8217;m Not Just Another Franchise Consultant&#8230;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First off, let me be clear: <strong>I&#8217;m not a Franchise Consultant<\/strong>. I&#8217;m a Franchise <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-advisors-franchise-brokers\">Advisor<\/a>. I tried telling her that.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second of all, when I called her at the appointed time, and told her my name, she asked me which franchise company I was from. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>This is The Franchise King<\/em>.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh&#8230;right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Translation:<\/strong> she&#8217;s talking to so many franchisors and Consultants, she can&#8217;t keep track of who she&#8217;s called and\/or set up phone appointments with. That&#8217;s never good. For everyone involved. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, could I have handled things differently?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In hindsight, of course I could have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would it have mattered?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>P.S.<\/strong> I&#8217;m easy. Really. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I give tons of free advice on a daily basis. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because I like helping people.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a matter of fact, I&#8217;ve helped hundreds of people <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/business-plans-franchising\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">avert serious financial disaster<\/a>. Admittedly, some of the advice was given during paid consultations with me.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a good number of the folks I&#8217;ve given advice to-that ultimately helped them avoid a horrible mistake in a franchise, was given for free.
