Did you hear that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was the sound of my Crown…exploding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll explain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do You Know What Franchise Consultants Do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a nutshell, franchise business consultants offer free<\/em> franchise matching services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And if you\u2019ve been looking at franchises to buy for more than a couple of weeks, you\u2019ve probably been contacted by one or two of them<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note: I’m not revealing the name of the broker who said this nor the website it was posted on. Just because. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHi, I\u2019m Lisa Gerardo, and I help people find the right franchise<\/a> based on their budget and what they want in a business. And my services are 100% free to you<\/em>!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospective franchise candidate: \u201cWait. You\u2019re going to help me find a franchise to buy for nothing<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa<\/em>: \u201cThat\u2019s right. We get paid by the franchisors we work with. And it doesn\u2019t cost you any more money* to work with us<\/em>.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*That’s debatable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospective franchise candidate: \u201cWow. That sounds great! How many franchises<\/a> do you work with<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa<\/em>: \u201cHundreds of different ones<\/em>. There\u2019s bound to be a few you\u2019d like<\/em>.\u201d Etc. Etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Except Lisa will never tell you how much the franchisors pay her for one<\/strong> successful \u201cmatch<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is that King<\/em>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because these \u201cconsultants<\/em>\u201d get a check overnighted<\/a> to them (from the franchisors they have sales contracts with<\/em>) for anywhere from $20,000 to $80,000 or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what she said is a lie. Here\u2019s why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s say you\u2019ve been working with Lisa for a couple of months, and you like one of the franchises<\/a> she’s attempted to \u201cmatch<\/em>\u201d you to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But then you decide to (wisely<\/em>) look at a competitor of the franchise she showed you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You: \u201cLisa, I like the residential cleaning franchise<\/a> you showed me. But I found another one, and they seem to be good too. Plus, it\u2019s $50,000 less upfront. I may end up going with it<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruh Roh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa<\/em>: \u201dInteresting. What\u2019s the name of the franchise<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You: \u201cAmanda Maids<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa<\/em>: \u201cI\u2019ve never heard of them. How long have they been around? How many franchises do they have? Are the franchisees making money<\/em>?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You: \u201cActually, the franchisees are doing quite well. But they <\/strong>are newer<\/em>.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lisa<\/em>: \u201cWell, that may be a problem. Are you sure you want to invest in a franchise that doesn\u2019t have a long track record? It\u2019s risker you know<\/strong><\/em>.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Etc. Etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In most cases, the conversation will continue to head down that path. Which path? This one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve spent all this time with this guy, and now…all of a sudden, he\u2019s going to buy a franchise I don\u2019t have a contract with? I have $27,000 riding on this! This is total bullshit! I was the one who came up with the idea of a residential cleaning business. Damnit<\/em>! I need to stop him from doing this<\/em>!\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From doing what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From buying a franchise that\u2019s $50,000 less than the one a franchise business consultant recommended?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A franchise where there\u2019s way more territory<\/a> available?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A franchise opportunity<\/a> that\u2019s newer and maybe even better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m Trying To Educate You Here<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s no way in hell that someone who has the potential to make a sweet $27,000 sales commission on a franchise she presented is unbiased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sure, Lisa (or Robert<\/em>) can say \u201cI want you to do what you think is best<\/em>,\u201d but c\u2019mon now. Really?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do these people think you were born yesterday?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seriously. Run like hell when you hear that<\/em>, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One more thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re one of those franchise buyer\u2019s who says, \u201cI don\u2019t care how much a franchise consultant makes as long as he finds a good franchise for me<\/em>,\u201d stop. It\u2019s a cop out. Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because it 100% does<\/strong> matter how much he makes off of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
