With the Patapsco River &#8211; the waterway spanned by the Key Bridge now blocked, cargo ship traffic in and out of the port has been halted. This leaves many small businesses\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/senator-manchin-franchising\">franchise businesses<\/a> that rely on the port&#8217;s operations in a precarious position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>The SBA Is Stepping In To Help The Baltimore Port Disruption<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To help these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/news-interest-rate-cuts-2024\">small businesses<\/a> weather the storm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/small-business-administration-inspector-general-fired\">the SBA<\/a> has announced that it will offer low-interest, long-term Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million. These loans can be used to cover normal operating expenses such as payroll, fixed debts, and other bills that have become difficult to pay due to the bridge collapse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/article\/2024\/03\/30\/sba-offers-economic-assistance-mid-atlantic-small-businesses-affected-francis-scott-key-bridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SBA&#8217;s disaster declaration<\/a> covers the entire state of Maryland, as well as contiguous counties in Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. This means that small businesses and non-profits in these areas can apply for the low-interest loans. But they&#8217;ll need to demonstrate the financial impact of the bridge collapse.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Two Business Recovery Centers Now Open<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To further support affected businesses, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/sba-business-resilience-guide\">the SBA<\/a> has also opened two Business Recovery Centers in the Baltimore area.
