How?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By finding a franchise attorney willing to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/buying-franchise-disclosure-documents\">draft a Franchise Disclosure Document<\/a> for you and register it with the proper authorities. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/super-easy-franchise-business\">Easy-peasy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>But, having a business name and legal documents that allow you to offer and sell franchises is only part of the puzzle. There&#8217;s so much more. Good thing there&#8217;s another way to franchise your business.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: hundreds of new franchise concepts launch every year. That&#8217;s a lot of new businesses that have the potential to expand via franchising. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let&#8217;s get back to turning a business into a franchise business, along with who does this type of work.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Franchising A Business Model: You Can Always Hire A Franchise Developer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> want to franchise your business model on the cheap (<em>by ONLY hiring a franchise attorney to create your FDD<\/em>), you can use a franchise development firm. They can:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Write your operations manual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help with branding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Draft a training manual<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pas.go2cloud.org\/aff_c?offer_id=2&amp;aff_id=1256&amp;url_id=111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Write a business plan<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write your FDD and franchise agreement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Setup a franchise sales process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop a franchise website<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help you sell franchises*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*Some franchise development companies tell you they&#8217;ll <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-lead-generation\">help you sell your first few franchises<\/a>. Experience tells me that&#8217;s not always the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you do go <a href=\"https:\/\/leadppc.com\/franchise\/top-franchise-development\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the franchise development route<\/a>, expect to pay at least $100,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course there are firms popping up that will do it for less. A lot less. And that&#8217;s a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a matter of fact, that&#8217;s THE problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Money Can Buy Dreams, But It&#8217;s Too Easy To Franchise A Business<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>What I mean here is that you can <em>pay<\/em> a franchise attorney of a franchise developer to set up a franchise to sell. It doesn&#8217;t mean you have a business that&#8217;s franchise-ready. <a href=\"https:\/\/corporatefinanceinstitute.com\/resources\/management\/franchise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Or franchise anything<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let me be blunt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are franchise development companies that will gladly and quickly take $100,000 of your hard-earned money to &#8220;<em>develop your franchise<\/em>&#8221; for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These firms will tell you &#8220;<em>Your business is perfect for franchising<\/em>.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But is it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can your independent business be turned into a successful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/how-much-to-open-a-franchise\">franchise opportunity<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is your idea actually &#8220;<em>great<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or is it great because someone is a little too willing to accept your check for $100k for franchising your business?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I say it is, and it&#8217;s those weak-ass, lazy, greedy, and unethical franchise development firms who are at fault. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Too bad THEY aren&#8217;t regulated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whoops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did I just open a <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"620\" height=\"785\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-620x785.jpg\" alt=\"the franchise king just opened up a can of worms for franchise developers\" class=\"wp-image-47361\" style=\"width:483px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-620x785.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-768x972.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-370x468.jpg 370w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-270x342.jpg 270w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-570x722.jpg 570w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms-740x937.jpg 740w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/franchise-dev-can-of-worms.jpg 790w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d7d7d7\">&#8220;<em>The superior man understands what is right; the inferior man understands what will sell<\/em>.&#8221; &#8211; Confucius<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>I Get A Lot Of Calls From Would-Be Franchisors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>About once a month or so, I get a call like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>Hi Joel. I&#8217;m thinking of franchising my business. Can you help<\/em>?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Me: &#8220;<em>I can&#8217;t personally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchising-your-business\">help you franchise your business<\/a>, but I may be able to suggest a couple of people who can help. Tell me about your business<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They tell me about their business and their ideas, but 9 times out of 10, when I ask if they have opened <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/salon-franchising\">a 2nd location<\/a>, they tell me they haven&#8217;t. And that&#8217;s a problem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So unless they have an opportunity that is either off-the-charts amazing sounding, or are offering something home-based, I don&#8217;t provide any names of franchise developers. There&#8217;s no reason to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Follow Up Calls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the time I tell these future franchisors to follow up with me when they&#8217;ve opened their 2nd location and have documented everything they&#8217;ve done, step-by-step. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m still waiting for any of them to call me back. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>It Shouldn&#8217;t Be Easy To Franchise A Business<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the other calls I get are the &#8220;<em>I haven&#8217;t sold any franchises<\/em>&#8221; type. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>My franchise developer told me he&#8217;d help me sell my first couple of franchises. He hasn&#8217;t sold any, and doesn&#8217;t seem to like taking my calls as much as he used to<\/em>.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s more common than you think. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a matter of fact, I call bull on these developers who promise to help new franchisors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/crudite-franchises-dr-oz\">get off the ground<\/a> by selling franchises for them. Because a lot of them just talk the talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe it&#8217;s just me, but it feels like once these companies get their money, they fade into the background. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But not all franchise development firms are like that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of them have the courage to say &#8220;<em>You&#8217;re not ready to franchise<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or, &#8220;<em>Your business isn&#8217;t suited for franchising<\/em>.&#8221;  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If more franchising business developers would do that, the franchise industry would be a lot healthier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because it should never be easy to &#8220;<em>franchise a business<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Practically anyone with $15,000 or so can franchise a business idea these days.
