{"id":6847,"date":"2012-07-05T14:47:09","date_gmt":"2012-07-05T14:47:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/?p=6847"},"modified":"2021-08-25T14:22:25","modified_gmt":"2021-08-25T18:22:25","slug":"people-have-to-eat-should-you-buy-a-food-franchise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/people-have-to-eat-should-you-buy-a-food-franchise","title":{"rendered":"Should You Buy a Food Franchise?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"lobster by tuppus, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/tupwanders\/85978918\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/43\/85978918_deda9bedff.jpg\" alt=\"lobster\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wish that I was able to somehow collect $100 every time I heard someone at one of <a title=\"franchise seminar joel libava\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/the-franchise-millionaire-seminar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my presentations on franchise ownership<\/a> say the following;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><em>I&#8217;m thinking of buying a food franchise because people have to eat.<\/em><\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And, if I <em>was<\/em> able to grab that $100 over and over again, my lobster intake would increase, for sure&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Seriously; I hear that statement a lot, so it must be important, right?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Working In The Food Business<\/h2>\n<p>My first job as an acne-encrusted teen was at Lyndhurst, Ohio&#8217;s Golden Dragon Restaurant. I was hired on as a Dish Sanitizing Technician. (<em>Dishwasher<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>It was the grossest job I ever had. And, in hindsight, it was a really poor choice for that&nbsp;particular&nbsp;job. I wasn&#8217;t thinking, I guess. I forgot that Chinese food was multi-course. Every damn customer had soup, appetizers, tea, beverages, a main course, and sherbet or ice cream to top things off at the end of their meal. Lots of dishes were used. Lots of dirty dishes came back into my area. <em>Lots<\/em>. More than any other type of restaurant, actually.<\/p>\n<p>The Golden Dragon was located towards the back of a nice office building. A nice office building with <a title=\"danny green hit\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Danny_Greene\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a very famous parking lot<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While this restaurant wasn&#8217;t a <strong>food franchise<\/strong>, it was a food business. I learned a lot, even as a teen. The most important thing I learned was preparation; food businesses need to be highly organized to work right. Management has to always be <em>prepared<\/em> to be busy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Employees need to be trained properly<\/li>\n<li>Inventory needs to be right<\/li>\n<li>Cleanliness has to be job #1<\/li>\n<li>Cost controls need to be tight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Should You Buy a Food Franchise?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>People <em>do<\/em> have to eat<\/strong>, for sure. I&#8217;m not sure if that&#8217;s <em>the right reason<\/em> for future franchise owners to pursue a <a title=\"food franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/www.franchisedirect.com\/foodfranchises\/14?utm_source=Joel-FranchiseKing&amp;utm_medium=CPC&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_campaign=King2012\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">food franchise<\/a>, but who am I to say?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, <a title=\"looking for a franchise buying a franchise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/the-top-10-fast-food-franchises\">talking about, looking at, and buying a food franchise<\/a> are all so different. So. Different.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re seriously considering food franchise ownership as your path, please make sure you know-or kind of know what you&#8217;re getting into. Being the owner of a business that serves food to the public has many, many, challenges. As far as I&#8217;m concerned, <strong><em>the food business is the toughest business in the world to own and operate<\/em><\/strong>. The amount of things that can go wrong are mind-boggling.<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t <em>have<\/em> to&nbsp;believe&nbsp;me. (<em>Even though I&#8217;m one of only a handful of franchise consultants-advisors that have actually<\/em> <strong>been<\/strong><em> in the food business<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Food Franchises Can Be Lucrative<\/h2>\n<p>There are lots of very successful food franchise owners, and they aren&#8217;t all owners of <a title=\"the McDonald's franchise\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/the-mcdonalds-franchise\">one of these<\/a>, either. You&#8217;ll find them if you&#8217;re looking at the great ones. While it&#8217;s true that the work is really hard, and the challenges, especially having to do with staffing are huge, if you&#8217;re focused on bringing a quality experience to the table, (<em>so to speak<\/em>) you could end up a winner.<\/p>\n<p>Just <strong><em>don&#8217;t buy a food franchise because people have to eat<\/em><\/strong>. <em>You<\/em> need to also.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work with me<\/strong> to find some of the great ones.
