{"id":7492,"date":"2012-10-05T18:51:34","date_gmt":"2012-10-05T18:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/?p=7492"},"modified":"2013-07-26T18:38:02","modified_gmt":"2013-07-26T18:38:02","slug":"are-you-a-finisher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/are-you-a-finisher","title":{"rendered":"Are You A Finisher?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>I never used to finish what I started<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>My Dad always told me that I, &#8220;<em>Never followed through<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He was right.<\/p>\n<p>Generally, when things got hard, I had a tendency to give up.<\/p>\n<p>Especially in Junior High and High School.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><em>All endeavor calls for the ability to tramp the last mile, shape the last plan, endure the last hours toil. The fight to the finish spirit is the one&#8230; characteristic we must posses if we are to face the future as finishers<\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>~ <strong>Henry David Thoreau<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Work Was Different<\/h2>\n<p>When I started working-at the age of 15, my follow-through got <em>a little<\/em> better. (<em>I was hired to wash dishes at a Chinese\u00a0restaurant<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>After a couple of years washing dishes, I had an opportunity to move into the front of the house; the dining room.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"food franchises\" href=\"https:\/\/www.franchisedirect.com\/foodfranchises\/14?utm_source=Joel-FranchiseKing&amp;utm_medium=CPC&amp;utm_term=&amp;utm_campaign=King2012\"><strong>Take a look at these food franchises<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I become very comfortable there. It was a fast-paced environment, and the busier it was, the more I made in tips. (<em>I was a busboy<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>My follow-through became a lot better.<\/p>\n<p>As the years progressed, I worked my way up to waiter, assistant manager, and general manager at various restaurants.<\/p>\n<p>The topping on the cake was when I landed a position as <strong>Maitre&#8217;D in a Las Vegas showroom<\/strong>. Good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Except for the tacky red tux that I had to wear every night.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7493\" title=\"joel libava red tux\" alt=\"red tux joel libava\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tux-231x300.jpg\" width=\"231\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tux-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/tux.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>(<em>My red tux-circa 1983.<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A Pattern<\/h2>\n<p>I was starting to detect a pattern.<\/p>\n<p>When I was going after something I wanted, like a better job, I was able to up my game. I was able to follow-through with whatever responsibility I had. I finished what I started.<\/p>\n<p>But, when I wasn&#8217;t very enthusiastic about something, my follow-through was horrid.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s because I just didn&#8217;t care.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>I&#8217;m A Finisher<\/h2>\n<p>At this point in my life, if I <em>don&#8217;t<\/em> finish something, I feel guilty.<\/p>\n<p>Heck, <strong><em>I started and\u00a0finished\u00a0<a title=\"franchise business books\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/new-business-book-released\">a business book<\/a><\/em><\/strong>. A <strong>262<\/strong> page book.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not perfect, though.
