Well I just did an interview with George, who wields some local internet power&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I met George last year, through his BFD blog. I commented about something to do with Cleveland&#8217;s economic woes, and he not only posted MY comment, but he linked to my new blog. {New at the time!}<br \/>I sent him an e-mail thanking him, and he responded, and liked what I had to say. Since then, George has been a wonderful and encouraging supporter of mine. Anyway, George wields some power in the Cleveland blogosphere, and has quite an active readership. George also has &quot;Meet The Bloggers.&quot; That has a more political feel to it. Blogs like MTB, are a newer way to reach out to voters. Cleveland&#8217;s blogging community is very well know around the country, and George is one of the reasons why.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/thefranchiseking.typepad.com\/photos\/uncategorized\/2007\/09\/14\/george.jpg\" title=\"George\" alt=\"George\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 5px 5px; float: right;\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>George and I sat down {No we didn&#8217;t} and discussed BFD, and what George has been up to: <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">1.&nbsp; What date is the first post on&nbsp; BFD?<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">&nbsp;<\/span><st1:date month=\"7\" day=\"29\" year=\"2002\"><\/st1:date><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">July 29, 2002<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> <strong>2.<\/strong>&nbsp; <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>How did you come up the idea, and the name?<\/strong><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">I started doing the blog because I had a<br \/>\ndomain (nemeth.ws) and wanted to do a website. I read an article somewhere<br \/>\nabout blogger.com (I think it was Wired) and thought I would give it a try.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p><strong>3<\/strong>. <strong>You run BFD. You help with Cool Cleveland.com. You have your &quot;Meet The Bloggers&quot; site. {MTB} How do you keep up with it all?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Serious amounts of caffeine\u2026\u2026.. usually in the form of coffee, black.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> <strong>4. What other projects are you working on, that you would be willing to share?<\/strong><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Right now, I haven&#8217;t committed to any<br \/>\nnew project. I recently became a homeowner (in the City of Cleveland) so I&#8217;ve been fixing up our house, and<br \/>\ngetting involved in the community. I&#8217;ve been attending community development<br \/>\ncorp. meetings (Northeast Shores. Check out their blog: <a href=\"https:\/\/northeastshores.blogspot.com\/\">https:\/\/northeastshores.blogspot.com\/<\/a>).<br \/>\nAdditionally, I&#8217;ve become a trustee to ArtsCollinwood. Their website is<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/artscollinwood.org\">ArtsCollinwood.org<\/a><o:p><\/o:p><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"> <strong>5. Please share your thoughts about Cleveland, and the direction it is headed in.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">That&#8217;s a tough question, Joel. While I&#8217;m<br \/>\noptimistic about the long term future (did just buy a home here), I&#8217;m got some<br \/>\nserious concerns about the near future.Cleveland is the proverbial tale of two cities.<br \/>\nOne one hand, there&#8217;s plenty of things to be excited about\u2014windfarms on the<br \/>\nlake, the ingenuity festival, serious economic development in the arts and<br \/>\ncreative industries. On the other, there&#8217;s a chronic lack of vision and<br \/>\nleadership at the civic level. I&#8217;d cite the changes at the city&#8217;s department of<br \/>\neconomic development, the trouble in city council, initiatives like the convention<br \/>\ncenter or casino gambling that fail to gain popular support, county<br \/>\ncommissioners raising taxes without address the public&#8217;s concerns about how the<br \/>\nmoney will be spent.
