You&#8217;re far enough into the process to feel like that you have a good handle on the franchise concept, and what you&#8217;re role would be as a franchisee.<\/p>\n<p>2. You feel strong enough about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/top-franchise-opportunities\">the franchise opportunity<\/a> to think it&#8217;s &#8220;<em>the one<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>3. After all, why else would you take an entire day to hop on a plane and visit headquarters?<\/p>\n<p>Good so far. There&#8217;s more.<\/p>\n<p>If you found the franchise opportunity through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/3-things-franchise-brokers-prefer-keep-wraps\">a franchise broker<\/a>, he&#8217;s doing the same thing. That&#8217;s because he, too, gets a (<em>large<\/em>) piece of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/the-franchise-fee-dont-focus-on-it\">Franchise Fee<\/a> you&#8217;ll be paying if you sign the franchise agreement and buy the franchise.<\/p>\n<p>See? Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because some franchisors use extremely aggressive sales techniques to add new franchisees.<\/p>\n<p>Like trying to get would-be franchisees to attend a Franchise Discovery Day way too early. Would you like to know why it&#8217;s sometimes done?<\/p>\n<p>It has to do with emotions.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, the emotion of &#8220;<em>excitement<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The sales technique used is known as &#8220;<em>striking the iron when it&#8217;s hot<\/em>,&#8221; as it leverages the franchise candidate&#8217;s genuine excitement about the franchise concept along with his visual of finally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/consultations\">being his own boss<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But there&#8217;s another reason a franchisor may try to get you to headquarters early.<\/p>\n<h2>Does The Franchisor Have A Secret?<\/h2>\n<p>Sometimes there&#8217;s another reason the franchise salesperson wants her candidate to attend a Discovery Day early on. And I&#8217;ve seen this happen a lot. You ready?<\/p>\n<p>The franchisor has a secret.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s something they&#8217;d like to keep under wraps for as long as humanly possible.<\/p>\n<p>You ready?<\/p>\n<p>The FDD contains things that are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/why-wont-they-send-you-the-franchise-disclosure-document-fdd\">less than favorable<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For example, there could be a lot of lawsuits.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe an unusually high number of franchisees have left the system in the last year or two.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Both<\/strong> of those things should be a<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/red-flag.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-38302\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/red-flag.png\" alt=\"franchise discovery days red flags\" width=\"312\" height=\"462\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/red-flag.png 432w, https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/red-flag-203x300.png 203w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whatever the case, there are items in the FDD that the franchisor doesn&#8217;t want you to know about until you &#8220;<em>need<\/em>&#8221; to.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, until you&#8217;re super-enthusiastic about the brand and the &#8220;<em>opportunity<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Discovery Day Tip: <\/strong>Don&#8217;t visit headquarters until you&#8217;ve gone over the Franchise Disclosure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thefranchiseking.com\/franchise-buyers-dont-need-to-read-the-franchise-disclosure-document\">Document <\/a>, and have had most of your questions answered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Note About Franchisors:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"animate-link\" title=\"franchisor risk\" href=\"https:\/\/smallbiztrends.com\/2010\/12\/the-other-side-of-risk-in-franchising.html\">They have some risk<\/a>, too. Not every prospective franchisee is right for the franchisors system.<\/p>\n<h2>A More Serious Tone<\/h2>\n<p>Once you receive an invite for a Discovery Day-and agree to travel to headquarters, you\u2019re going to notice a difference in the way your franchise salesperson is communicating with you.<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, she&#8217;ll have more of a serious tone in her voice. Why?<\/p>\n<p>Because she&#8217;s going to try to get you to the finish line.<\/p>\n<p>In her world, this is what it&#8217;s all about.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s not a bad thing unless she&#8217;s done things in an unethical way.<\/p>\n<h2>Two Important Decisions That Will Need To Be Made<\/h2>\n<p>The first decision that will need to be made comes from the franchisor.<\/p>\n<p>The executive team will need to decide if they feel you\u2019d be a good franchisee.<\/p>\n<p>If they do, they&#8217;ll formally approve you. Then they&#8217;ll let your salesperson know, so she can call you to congratulate you on being approved.
