A cup of coffee for you!

[edit]
I had already been searching for too long for possible articles about the AI image for my long comment. At the end of it I really didn't feel like trying to verify Megyn's unsourced claims. So I was really glad to see you had done just that! - Alexis Jazz ping plz 21:34, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

New 9/11 Hijacker images

[edit]

Very good work with the uploads of the higher quality images and license transcripts of the 9/11 hijacker-pilots. I am curious as to how you found them. About Atta's attire in [Atta 5-2-01 HQ.jpg|this image], he appears to be wearing some sort of collared shirt (Likely a dress shirt) of black or dark reddish color over a white T-shirt, not a suit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Enginemen (talk • contribs) 17:16, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here is how I was able to obtain these. I was going through the prosecution evidence in the Zacarias Moussaoui trial which you can find here. https://coop.vaed.uscourts.gov/moussaoui/exhibits/prosecution.html
I found some Adobe Flash presentations (exhibit numbers OG00010 and OG00011). Most of the high-quality images I got came from the presentations in exhibit OG00011 which discussed the hijackers cell phone calls. I have a computer program that can extract assets from Flash files which I used here. The reason this was probably overlooked for so long is because no one expected the quality of the images in the Flash presentations to be any different from the other case files. Enginemen, there's a strange pattern over the other file (and the darker colors are more pronounced making his eyebrows look crazy big), I wonder if it's a photo of a CRT display. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 22:22, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
That is what I am thinking. I noticed that the colors were significantly different. My theory is that the copies we've had here for a long time came from an analog source. The analog color standard in the U.S. is NTSC and people call it "Not Twice the Same Color" because of the color shifting. Also, there is generation loss to consider. Most of my higher quality ones are from the original generation. There were a few where I couldn't find that, so I used the best copy I could find instead. Minermatt122514 (talk) 23:04, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
The version I learned is "Never The Same Color". The French SECAM stands for "Something Essentially Contradictory to the American Method" with PAL being "Perfection At Last". My guess however would be a (low quality? poorly calibrated?) computer CRT monitor. The lines appear to be very fine. NTSC is known for being good with skin tones, but those are clearly suffering. It seems more likely the photo was being displayed on a computer monitor rather than a TV, few computers had a TV-out and taking a photo of a live broadcast seems silly. It may also be harder to take a photo of a 60hz TV instead of a higher refresh rate computer monitor. It's all speculation of course, we can't know for sure. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 23:52, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: The website itself has a copyright that does not carve out the images. I did not find an image use policy on the website. I do not think relying on Ballotpedia, whose section on these materials does not indicate which employee of the legislature sent the email, what that employee's authority to make that determination was, what statute the employee cited when making that determination, etc. trumps the copyright on the website. https://alison.legislature.state.al.us/house-leaders-members
